I would like to thank Last Action Hero. Wait, hear me out. In Last Action Hero, F. Murray Abraham appears as a cop alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger's Jack Slater, and the young boy warns him, "Watch it, Jack. He killed Mozart!" "In a movie?" Jack asks sarcastically. "Amadeus! It won 8 Oscars!" the boy replies. If not for this exchange, it might have been years and years before I actually watched Amadeus, which is now my favorite film of all-time. Thank you, Last Action Hero.

P.S. Can we please get the superior Theatrical Cut in 4k???

I can't believe I just stumbled on this video. I was there. In Prague with my orchestra, The Concord Orchestra in Concord MA. We went on a European tour for 2 weeks playing in churches and beautiful concert halls. We were in the room where Mozart was 'crawling along the floor'. We held a concert in that room. the gold and white. I thought any minute now they are going to say: "cut" and move the walls, to reveal it's all a stage, not real. But they didn't. I could hardly play I was in awe of the whole things. Love love this movie.  It's now 2019 and I still play the music.

"He is standing exactly at the place where Mozart himself in person conducted the world premiere of Don Giovanni" - all those Germans who made Czechia great during the centuries were deported / killed by Czechoslovakia...Mozart would have been deported, too. So sad. Not even a mention of that.

Responder a este comentario >>

"all those Germans who made Czechia great during the centuries were deported / killed" What? You are comparing uncomparable. Mozart was austrian first of all. Bohemia was ruled by Habsburgs for centuries. If you ever visit the Old Town square in Prague, check out the ground on the side of the Old Town city hall. 27 czech leaders of the anti-habsburg uprising were slaughtered, quartered, beheaded etc etc - in 1621. Then we can as well say "all those Czechs who made Bohemia great during the centuries were killed by the rutheless mean Habsburgs" and it might be closer to truth, than the thing you wrote, most likely reffering to 1945 (imho unfair as well, just to make it clear), because "all those" you are talking about, lived in Bohemia while it was ruled by Habsburgs or Austro Hungarian empire. If some bigger empire invades your country and rules is for centuries, won´t you thik about those many many people, that lost their life or freedom under the reign? Czechs, Germans, Austrians, or others? And ironicaly, you are commenting under a documentary about Miloš Forman´s movie. Miloš Forman was born in free Czechoslovakia, then his parents died in holocaust, then he went through communism and finally he got to know democracy. Your post sounds like you think (like many Germans do) that Czech republic, Bohemia, whatever - is stolen part of Germany and it owes and belongs to Germans, but Bohemian kingdom has it´s sovereign place on historical map. And btw - the premiere of Don Giovanni happened in Prague, because Mozart was persona non grata in Vienna already, thank to his marvelous amazing personality, which we love and admire:)

I was in technical theater school. And my girlfriend/ classmate took me to this big old theatre with a huge screen. Similar to the one in this film. And we were to watch Amadeus. It had been out the year before but this was a special screening. I never heard about it. Too busy staging shows. Stupid me had no idea what was to come. I was transfixed to the screen for every second. With my jaw on the floor. It was intense with the huge screen and big sound. The story, costumes, acting, script, direction were all flawless. I will never ever forget that night or my soon to be wife.

To this date, I still think the portraying of Mozart is a failure in this movie. It's horrendous. But I guess that's what happens sometimes when ordinary people try to portray a genius. It's abysmal that it's tragedy. The guy who played Mozart couldn't even be bothered to dial down his American accent. Who knows Mozart was born a proud American.

@rascal rascal Salieri and Mozart were in reality very good friends.
21/06/2019 boruvka4
@rascal rascal As far as i know, Salieri had several children with the singer Caterina, but in the movie he says - i never laid a finger on her, nono... He was also sometimes helping Mozart, introducing him to rich clients (since Mozart as a composer was nothing more than a servant and private lessons or concertos for rich peoples palaces etc, were nice side income) Or Mozart, he was first of all highly educated (fluent in several languages etc), in one of his letters he said "nobody works harder than me on learning compositions" we know he was not joking. On the other hand, he was much worse pig in rl than pictured in the movie, he loved all kinds of beyond vulgar, sexual, anal, fecal, bizarre jokes and vocabulary, the crazier the better, like the rest of his family. Imagine you are a hippie trapped in stiff powdered 18th century, it had to get out somehow, i think it was his form of relief. His widow unfortunately burned most of his correspondation after he died, and she told one publisher "i hope you will never publish anything, before you let me see it first"... Nobody had the balls to publish his uncensored letter until 20th century, if i remember correctly. And as Forman said in some interview - when Mozart died, there were thousands of people attending the requiem mess in Prague, they didnt even fit in the church - those, that did not know Mozart personaly. Behind his coffin were 5 people, those who could stand his personality. I still love Wolfi just as much as Miloš:)

And I was like: “Oh no, a biography movie??!!?? I don’t want to see it, It sounds dull and boring as hell, I don’t want to have anything to do with it.”
And he said: “ Watch 10 minutes and if you don’t like it, you can leave anytime, okay? Just 10 minutes!”
And so I watched, and I watched it til the last second.

I visited Prague in 2012 and instantly fell in love. Their admiration of the city architecture is totally accurate.

Wer sich “Applehead Defender” nennt und ein MJ - Profilbildchen mit Blumenkranz hat, ist schon irrsinnig sympathisch für mich, auch ohne, dass ich Ihn kenne!

Saw this in the theater last year. The Directors cut but still very happy to see it again! To those that have never seen this in the theater never ever miss your chance if you get one.

Hollywood doesn't want to make movies about history because it's either offensive or a social construct. What a shame.......in order to know who we are, we need to know where we came from.....Jordan Peterson.

What a silly and contradictory comment" thanks to Comunist inefficiency XVIII century architecture was untouched (in Prague)"

Why? You need to be efficient to build new things (tear the old ones down in a centre). They did not have money. Planned economy was a disaster.
Do you believe somebody like Miloš Forman would have made any silly comment?) He is one of the smartest guys out there.
26/07/2018 Pilar Oñate
I think he means that they didn't build anything new or put new structures, buildings or anything, it's a bit a pity but in the other hand they still got such an incredible architecture....
05/03/2019 gustavo anibal
TODA LA PELÏCULA ES HISTÖRICAMENTE FALSA
sí Forman y sus secuaces y sus estúpidos comentarios solo son parásitos del genio de Mozart.
01/07/2019 rascal rascal
If I’m not mistaken what Miloš was trying to say that there were absolutely no advertisements, no commercial signs, no bright flashing brand names ( for an example : KODAK, PILSNER, MARLBORO ) etc. So they didn’t have to endure the trouble with removing them - which would have been time and money consuming.

Tom Hulce would've made a good Luke Skywalker for Star Wars, too. Him and Mark Hamill could be brothers.

Responder a este comentario >>

16/01/2018 Messylin
Look it up. Hamill had played Mozart in the Broadway Amadeus.
21/04/2018 Julie Witt
I think it was a part that Hamill desperately wanted since he wanted to get away from the Skywalker role. Hamill also played the Elephant Man on stage.
13/02/2019 EyeShotFirst
@Yummy Sounds aka A Narcissistic Viewer I've even heard Mark Hamill say he was trying to get the part, and overheard someone, might've been Milos "I don't want Luke Skywalker to be in my movie". Hamill hadn't really proved how good he actually was to the film world yet, but on the stage he was getting a lot of love. It's kind of funny how Mark went to the stage at the height of his career and Tom was acting more prominently in film, then suddenly Tom retires from the screen and does more broadway/stage work, and Mark comes back to the big screen. They're very similar guys in a lot of ways.
04/07/2019 Dario Wirtha
@EyeShotFirst mark's acting was great in empire strikes back, especially when he found out that darth was.... spoiler alert!
15/08/2019 msinvincible2000
@Messylin It's not a question of being pretentious. As Forman explained, he didn't want famous actors, because he wanted people to see the characters, not the actors, to see Mozart, not Luke Skywalker
